Technopark Morocco and Plug and Play Africa announced a strategic partnership on Monday to expedite Morocco's startup innovation ecosystem.
This alliance is poised to revolutionise the Moroccan tech scene by granting startups access to global markets, funding, and expertise, establishing Morocco as a digital centre in Africa.
Launching a global accelerator for Moroccan startups
The partnership will establish a global accelerator program within Technopark Casablanca to support over 60 high-potential Moroccan startups by 2026.
The accelerator offers an intensive three-month curriculum on skill development, pilot projects with major corporations, and investor access.
This hands-on approach will adequately prepare businesses for expanding their operations to international markets and acquiring funding.
Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, witnessed the signing, highlighting the government’s strategic backing.
Morocco Digital 2030 is a digital plan that intends to create 3,000 startups by the year 2030 and raise a total of $761 million in capital. The Ministry of Economy and Finance is also in favour of the initiative, which is aligned with Morocco's digital strategy.
Strengthening Morocco's position in African tech Innovation
Morocco has raised $82 million, 75 percent of North Africa's overall technology financing and 36 percent of Francophone Africa's total. This places Morocco sixth among African countries in terms of technology fundraising operations.
Plug and Play’s global network, spanning over 60 countries and 550 corporate partners, will provide Moroccan startups unparalleled access to international markets and investors.
In addition to boosting Morocco's position as a premier tech talent hub, this relationship is anticipated to stimulate local innovation and attract foreign investment.
Plug and Play Africa’s accelerator program is equity and fee-free. It targets startups in sectors such as retail, smart cities, health tech, education, sustainability, fintech, and energy.
The program also offers mentorship from global experts, business development support, and exclusive networking events, making it an attractive opportunity for early-stage founders.
As part of Morocco's efforts to become a prominent participant in Africa's innovation ecosystem, this collaboration represents a critical step towards achieving the country's goal of promoting a dynamic environment for startup companies and developing collaborations between the public and private sectors.
