The world of handheld gaming is about to get a revolutionary makeover. At MWC 2024, Tecno, a leading smartphone brand, unveiled the Tecno Pocket Go, a unique device that breaks away from the traditional mould.

Unlike the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck, the Pocket Go doesn’t have a built-in screen. Instead, it takes a bold step into the future by incorporating augmented reality (AR) technology to deliver a truly immersive gaming experience.

This innovative approach has gamers and tech enthusiasts buzzing with excitement, eager to learn more about the capabilities of the Tecno Pocket Go.

Tecno Pocket Go: Powerful performance in a compact package

The Tecno Pocket Go might not boast a flashy display, but what it lacks in screen real estate, it makes up for in raw power. Tucked within the controller is an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor, boasting 8 cores and 16 threads.

This powerhouse has a generous 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a speedy 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, ensuring smooth gameplay even for demanding titles. Tecno still needs to skim on the cooling system. The Pocket Go incorporates a three-copper pipe setup to efficiently dissipate heat and maintain optimal performance during extended gaming sessions.

The true innovation behind the Tecno Pocket Go lies in its reliance on AR technology. Instead of a traditional screen, the Pocket Go utilises a pair of AR glasses to project a virtual display.

Tecno claims this display offers a staggering 200-inch viewing experience from six meters away, putting you right in the middle of the action and creating an unparalleled level of immersion.

The AR glasses are packed with features designed to enhance the gaming experience. They come equipped with adjustable diopters for personalised viewing comfort and boast a six-axis gyroscope with an AI head movement tracking algorithm, which allows for intuitive controls where your head movements can translate into in-game actions.

Info on The Tecno Pocket Go

The Tecno Pocket Go is undeniably a bold and innovative concept. Its reliance on AR technology opens doors to a new frontier in handheld gaming, offering a potentially more immersive experience than ever before.

The powerful hardware ensures smooth performance for even the most demanding games, and including a replaceable battery addresses a primary concern for mobile gamers.

However, several concerns still need to be addressed. There’s no official word on the release date or pricing, and the long-term comfort of wearing AR glasses for extended gaming sessions is yet to be seen. The success of the Tecno Pocket Go will likely hinge on the quality and user experience of the AR glasses.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, the Tecno Pocket Go represents a significant step forward in handheld gaming. It pushes the boundaries of what’s possible and reminds us that the future of gaming might be far more immersive than we can imagine.
