Telecom Egypt officially launched its 5G network on Wednesday, marking a turning point in its history of innovation and excellence.

This action reaffirms its dedication to being the first to offer its customers state-of-the-art technologies.

Mayar Naguib, Director of Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility at Telecom Egypt, stated, “5G is officially in Egypt, which means that your phone just got faster and better (as a matter of fact, everything else that is connected)! A great moment to witness a new dream actualised.”

Mohamed Al-Fowey, Vice President, Chief Technology Officer at Telecom Egypt, noted that the accomplishment resulted from “12 months of relentless effort, sleepless nights, and unmatched dedication by an extraordinary team across multiple domains.”

Vice President Al-Fowey expressed appreciation to the team that made the initiative possible.

He remarked, “A heartfelt thank you to Core & Wireless Engineering, Rollout, Operations, Technical Customer Experience, PMO, IT Planning, Data Warehouse, and IT Operations—your enthusiasm, professionalism, and teamwork made this vision a reality.”

“It’s a true honour to be part of such a brilliant, intelligent, and committed team. Let’s continue leading the way forward!” he added.

Significant milestone in Egypt’s digital evolution

The telecom company’s strong dedication to prioritising its customers, providing top-notch services, and ensuring they take advantage of the latest technological advancements has led it to become the first company in Egypt to obtain a 5G licence last year and to formally launch 5G on Wednesday. This initiative represents a major milestone in the country’s digital evolution.

Mohamed Nasr, CEO and Managing Director at Telecom Egypt, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “In front of the timeless pyramids and within the embrace of a civilisation that stretches back thousands of years, Egypt today witnessed the realisation of a new dream—a testament that the legacy of glory and achievement lives on and that the heart of innovation still beats strongly in this great nation.”

CEO Nasr noted that the initiative will improve the users’ productivity, creativity, and talents while transforming the way they live and connect.

He added, “Today, we celebrate the launch of 5G services, marking the beginning of a new era where technology will be the cornerstone of everything. An era that will reshape how we live and interact, making us more efficient, more innovative, and more capable.”

About Telecom Egypt

Since its founding in 1854, Telecom Egypt has been instrumental in propelling the expansion of the local ICT market by leveraging its extensive infrastructure, which is among the biggest in the region. Its extensive domestic and international infrastructure has made serving a wide range of clientele, including consumers, businesses, and domestic and international carriers, possible. Telecom Egypt has an EGP 22.8 billion consolidated top line across its five business units.

Telecom Egypt launched its new retail brand, “WE,” in September 2017 along with its mobile services. After just one year of operation, “WE” provided the market with its first fully integrated bundle, combining all its consumer services—fixed and mobile, voice and data—into a single bill.

The move marked the beginning of full convergence and showed its flexibility as a major force in the telecom sector. Telecom Egypt had 7.9 million fixed voice customers by the end of 2018, of whom 5.2 million had fixed broadband connectivity and 3.9 million were mobile customers.

Local mobile operators and internet service providers can access international voice services, transmission, and infrastructure through Telecom Egypt’s wholesale division. International carrier capacities are also offered on one of the world’s biggest submarine cable networks.
