Airtel Nigeria, a company that provides phone and internet services, has launched its 5G mobile network.

This move is likely to make the Nigerian telecoms market more competitive, bring in more customers, and increase Airtel’s market share.

By making it easier for people to use broadband, Airtel’s 5G network should help the Nigerian government reach its goals for digital change.

The latest information from the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) shows that Airtel has 27,01% of the country’s mobile subscribers.

Airtel’s move into 5G puts it in the ultra-broadband market, which has been mostly controlled by MTN since September 2022, when it launched its latest-generation technology.

Mafab Communications has also been offering 5G services since January of that year.

In January, Airtel said it would spend a total of $316.7 million to buy 5G spectrum and more radio for its 4G network.

Nigeria now has a total of three 5G licences thanks to this purchase. In 2021, the two 100 MHz TDD spots in the 3.5 GHz band were taken by MTN Nigeria and Mafab Nigeria Communications Limited.
