Telkom announces price hike for broadband and voice services for South African subscribers

Telkom South Africa announced on Tuesday that it will raise prices for its fixed broadband and voice services, effective April 1, 2025.

This decision comes in response to increasing operational costs and external economic pressures, including rising inflation, energy costs, and a weakened exchange rate.

Reasons behind the price adjustments

The price hikes are attributed to the economic challenges South Africa is facing.

Telkom noted, “South Africa continues to face economic challenges, including rising inflation, increasing energy costs, and a weakened exchange rate, all of which put pressure on businesses across various sectors”. These macroeconomic factors drive up the cost of delivering services, particularly in industries reliant on infrastructure, technology, and operational investments.

Lunga Siyo, CEO of Telkom Consumer Business, acknowledged that while price increases can be challenging for customers, they are necessary to ensure the company continues providing reliable, high-quality services.

Telkom emphasised that these adjustments are essential to maintaining its commitment to delivering quality service while remaining competitive. The company has worked to keep increases to a minimum while maintaining its value-driven offerings.
