TelOne Opens Data Centre to Improve Quality of Service in Zimbabwe

TelOne, Zimbabwe’s sole fixed telecommunication services provider has opened a data center in Bulawayo, the southern region of the country. This development will result in improved data connectivity and customer service.

TelOne is a state-owned telecommunication company, that provides Zimbabwe with Voice, Internet, and Data Services.

The Bulawayo Data Centre is part of an expansion drive that has seen the company investing over US$4 million since 2016. With a total capacity of 120 racks and a total power of 400kVA, the data center is a Tier 3 design facility that provides redundancy for all important components such as power and cooling.

What TelOne Intends To Achieve With Their New Data Center

Speaking at the launch, ICT, Postal, and Courier Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere said: “Through these data centers, we are able as a nation to increase security and system resilience. Furthermore, we expect a remarkable improvement in speed and quality of service.”

“TelOne’s customers, who are mostly banks, financial organizations, telecommunications providers, private enterprises, government departments, and a whole range of IT service providers, will benefit from disaster recovery hosting that is highly customisable, fully managed, and secure for carrier-grade IT resiliency.” The chief executive officer of TelOne, Chipo Mtasa said.

The project is part of the company’s technology upgrade programme, which includes the National Broadband Phase II project, under which TelOne aims to deploy 100,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service lines over the next five years, as well as 150,000 4G mobile connections
