Tenable CEO Amit Yoran dies at 54 after battle with cancer

Amit Yoran, the CEO of Tenable, tragically passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 54, following a brave fight against cancer. Widely regarded as a leader and visionary in the cybersecurity industry, Yoran’s impact extended far beyond his role at Tenable, where he had served since 2016. 

He was instrumental in elevating the company’s profile, particularly in 2018 when he helped put Tenable on the map as a key player in exposure management.

A journey in cybersecurity

Before leading Tenable, Yoran held essential positions at several major companies. He was the president of RSA Security and the founding CEO of NetWitness.

Additionally, he served as the first director of the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) at the Department of Homeland Security from 2003 to 2005. His background in the private and public sectors gave him a unique perspective on cybersecurity challenges.

Tenable released a statement honouring Yoran, describing him as “a visionary leader and a pioneer in the cybersecurity industry.” 

His work helped shape Tenable into a leader in exposure management. Art Coviello, the lead independent director at Tenable, shared his thoughts: “His passion for cybersecurity and his strategic vision have shaped Tenable’s culture and mission.”

Yoran was not just a leader but also a mentor and friend to many in the cybersecurity community. Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in from colleagues and industry leaders who admired his contributions.

Tenable’s chief people and culture officer, Bridgett Paradise, said Yoran was “a guiding force who profoundly impacted our industry.”

Yoran’s legacy will continue to influence the company and inspire future innovations in cybersecurity.
