Threads, Meta’s fast-growing social app, is rolling out a new spoiler text feature that lets users hide sensitive or revealing content behind a clickable overlay.

On Monday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this update, highlighting how it will help users share spoilers without ruining surprises for others.

Spoiler text adds control over revealing content

The spoiler text feature allows users to select text or images and mark them as spoilers. When posted, the content appears blurred or covered by a grey box, and viewers must click or tap to reveal what’s hidden.

This simple tool protects fans from accidental spoilers while encouraging open discussions about popular TV shows, movies, and books.

Zuckerberg explained, “Spoilers can ruin the experience for many, so this feature gives people the choice to engage with sensitive content on their own terms.” He added that Threads aims to create a respectful space where users can talk freely without fear of unwanted reveals.

Threads’ approach is user-friendly and visually straightforward, unlike some platforms that lack spoiler controls. For example, Reddit uses spoiler tags but often requires more steps to access hidden content.

Threads’ overlay method is straightforward and works seamlessly across mobile and desktop versions. The feature is currently being tested and is gradually becoming available worldwide.

Meta is gathering feedback to refine the experience before a full launch. Early users have praised the spoiler text for making it easier to discuss recent episodes of hit shows like Stranger Things or Succession without spoiling key plot points for others.

Besides entertainment, the spoiler option also helps hide sensitive images or text that might be disturbing or inappropriate for some users, giving everyone more control over what they see.

Threads continues to add features that improve user interaction, following recent updates like a dedicated messaging inbox separate from Instagram. By introducing spoiler text, Meta demonstrates its commitment to enhancing community conversations and user choice.

This new tool positions Threads as a thoughtful platform that balances open dialogue with respect for personal preferences, making it a more attractive space for social sharing and fandom discussions.
