TikTok on Thursday introduced innovative features for songwriters, allowing them to showcase their work better and gain recognition directly through the app.
This move aims to give songwriters more visibility and tools to promote their music alongside the app’s massive user-generated content.
Spotlight on songwriters: new profile enhancements
TikTok is launching a ‘Songwriter’ label that will appear below the username of registered songwriters.
This visible badge distinguishes them on the platform and helps potential collaborators or fans identify the creative minds behind popular tracks.
A dedicated ‘Music’ tab will be added to songwriter profiles, where users can display songs they have written or co-written.
This mirrors existing artist profile features but focuses exclusively on songwriting credits, providing a direct way for songwriters to present their portfolio of work.
Currently, these features are in a closed beta and available to select publishing partners and songwriters, with an option to join a waitlist for future access.
TikTok developed these tools after surveying over 870 songwriters to understand their needs in promoting their craft and creating monetisation opportunities through social media presence.
Empowering songwriters through TikTok’s platform
TikTok has firmly committed to its music community by integrating songwriters more deeply into the app’s ecosystem.
Unlike other platforms focused mainly on performers, TikTok’s new features let songwriters promote their music alongside their content, allowing them to tell their stories and engage directly with fans.
The platform’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership stated, “We are passionately committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok, which is why we built these tools to celebrate and elevate songwriters and their work on our platform”.
The rise of TikTok’s influence in music discovery has made it a preferred platform for more than half of active songwriters to promote their creations, according to an independent study cited by the company.
Previously, TikTok introduced initiatives like the ‘BehindTheSong’ hub and the ‘Off the Record’ series to help songwriters and producers share their creative processes.
These new features build on that momentum, making TikTok an even more attractive space for songwriters seeking recognition and growth.
Music is integral to TikTok’s culture, and these songwriter-focused tools help bridge the gap between creation and audience discovery, potentially transforming how behind-the-scenes creators connect with fans and the music industry.
