TikTok is testing its new subscription-based music streaming services in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore. TikTok Music was launched roughly two weeks after the programme originally appeared in Indonesia and Brazil. TikTok is offering a free three-month trial of the TikTok Music service to anybody who signs up to participate in a limited beta test starting today in these new markets.

According to the company’s official press release, “TikTok Music is a new kind of music service that combines the power of music discovery on TikTok with a music streaming service offering millions of tracks from thousands of artists.” Beta testers may get their hands on the TikTok Music app by visiting music.tiktok.com or by searching for it in the Apple or Google Play stores.

Local websites indicate that a monthly TikTok Music membership will cost you around AUD11.99 ($8.18 USD), MXN$115 ($6.87 USD), and S$9.90 ($7.47 USD) in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore, respectively. TikTok Music now offers student and family plans for up to six accounts at a discounted rate.

TikTok Music has its own app, but the new streaming service can also be connected to a regular TikTok account so that users may listen to, share, and even download songs they find on the social networking site. TikTok users may now share their favorite songs and artists from TikTok Music with their friends and followers on the main TikTok app.

In addition to being able to search for songs based on lyrical content, users can also import their own music collection, download songs to listen to offline, make shared playlists, and explore lyrics in real time. As with Shazam, TikTok Music users may use the service to identify songs they listen to around them, and they can also share their thoughts and comments with other users.

TikTok Music has yet to be announced for the United States, although the business has promised: “more news to share on the launch of TikTok Music in the coming months.”

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, first applied to trademark “TikTok Music” in Australia in November 2021 and then again in May of this year, giving the US government some assurance that ByteDance intends to launch the app in the US despite its concerns.

When it comes to the music industry, TikTok is already a major player. As a result of the platform’s inception in 2016, numerous popular songs have become viral hits, owing to its role in exposing listeners to new music. Several of these tunes have been compiled into TikTok-specific playlists on other streaming platforms.

That’s why it appears logical that TikTok would want to go head-to-head with streaming music services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. To further expand its music selection, the firm has established partnerships with Sony Music, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group.
