Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, a philanthropist and entrepreneur, unveiled two innovative educational projects in Ekiti State: the GOM Community Secondary School (GOMCSS) and the Gbemisola Olowolafe Memorial (GOM) ICT Centre.

In honour of his late wife, Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe, these initiatives were started in Are-Ekiti to transform digital skills training and education in Nigeria.

Building advanced digital skills for Nigerian youths

The GOMTECH ICT Centre is a 40-seat modern facility with high-speed internet, uninterrupted power supply, and robust security measures. It is a pilot hub that leads a network of similar centres across Nigeria and Africa.

In addition to practical courses in cybersecurity, data analytics, UX design, digital marketing, IT support, and project management, the centre offers training in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing.

Dr Olowolafe states, “Our learners will not only be computer literate but will leave with specialised skills and globally recognised certifications to thrive in the modern technological landscape”.

To continuously monitor learning outcomes and progression, every learner is granted a digital identity that will last their entire life in the form of an email account.

A Model School Empowering the Community

Adjacent to the ICT centre, the GOM Community Secondary School offers a fully equipped environment featuring smart classrooms, fast internet, and sports facilities.

The school has been officially handed over to the Ekiti State Ministry of Education and is poised to serve the educational needs of Are-Ekiti and the surrounding communities.

Its curriculum integrates cutting-edge certifications like Google-backed programs, blockchain training, and agentic AI courses.

Additionally, the school prioritises the development of job-readiness skills, such as internships, CV writing, and interview preparation. Teachers will reap the rewards of international professional development partnerships with organisations such as Google for Education and the Commonwealth Education Trust.

Dr. Olowolafe stated, “These projects are about more than technology. They prove that Nigerian youth can achieve world-class outcomes at home, regardless of background”.
