About UNITAR Board of Trustees

The Institute is governed by its Board of Trustees. In addition to performing other statutory duties, such as evaluating the Institute's funding options to guarantee the Institute's continued viability, efficacy, and autonomy within the UN framework, the Board also develops the guiding principles and policies that will guide the Institute's operations. It also approves the work program, adopts the budget, and examines the staffing composition and structure.

The President of the General Assembly and the President of the Economic and Social Council advise the UN Secretary-General when appointing the Board's tiny but incredibly varied group of eminent trustees. Trustees can hold a maximum of two successive three-year mandates.
