The rise of “minimalist” phones with minimum functionality is due to the seductive nature of smartphone apps and the fact that spending more money solves problems. Light Phones are popular, and now there’s a new model.

The Light Phone III is the latest model from Light, which makes minimalist phones to decrease digital distractions. This new model builds on the Light Phone II’s popularity while incorporating user feedback and new technology. Instead of E-ink, the Light Phone 3 has a more extensive matte OLED display. 

Light believes the new OLED panel will boost performance and usability without sacrificing the quiet simplicity of the black-and-white interface. The e-ink screen was fantastic. However, battery life may be compromised, so we’ll see how the phone does.

A 50MP rear camera with centre focus, a fixed focal length, and a shutter button is inspired by point-and-shoot film cameras. It features a simple interface with minimal function, but the company claimed it will continue to release utility-oriented tools with optional, never-pre-installed software updates. It also indicated future software updates may include Spotify, WhatsApp/Signal, and taxi-hailing apps.

Light Phone III has a metal frame, fingerprint scanner, torch, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, 5G, and NFC—1800mAh user-replaceable battery. The company stated that it was designed in Brooklyn and Taiwan with Foxconn and assembled near Shenzhen.

Light Phone III: Price and Availability Revealed

For pre-ordering until July 15th, you can get the Light Phone III for just USD 399, which is about Rs. 33,360. The regular price is USD 799, which is about Rs. 66,805. As of January 2025, it will be shipped. 

It was stated that the Light Phone II would continue to receive enhancements and would continue to be sold.

Light said this about the phone: “You can use the Light Phone III to make your life better whether you’re thinking about a digital detox, want to spend more time with your toddler, or are getting your first phone.”
