Vodacom Tanzania Foundation to invest TZS 3.25 billion to improve Tanzanian education
The Vodacom Tanzania Plc Foundation announced earlier this week that it would invest TZS 3.25 billion over three years to improve Tanzanian education.
To assist the government’s Teacher Continuous Professional Development (TCPD) program, MEWAKA, Vodacom will provide 184 Teachers Resource Centres (TRCs) with ICT tools and dependable internet connectivity in collaboration with the Tanzania Institute of Education.
The organisation noted, “Vodacom Group’s purpose to connect for a better future affirms our commitment to supporting an inclusive, sustainable, and trusted digital society.”
With the use of this digital infrastructure, more than 300,000 teachers nationwide will have access to professional development resources through the Learning Management System (LMS), enhancing instruction in line with Tanzania’s updated competency-based curriculum for 2023.
According to data, 60 percent of Tanzanian children aged 10 presently have difficulty reading and understanding a basic story.
Through its relationship with Twaweza, the Vodacom Foundation will assist expand the KiuFunza Pay-by-Skill initiative, which rewards teachers of pupils in grades 1-3 for helping them learn the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy.
The program will be implemented in 865 schools and reach over 360,000 pupils in early elementary grades.
Through these collaborations, the organisation hopes to improve Tanzanian education by providing educators with the resources they need and assisting young students in developing solid basic skills.
The Vodacom Foundation emphasised, “This is one of the ways we’re empowering communities to connect for a better future.”
