Vodafone Egypt

Vodacom Group, a pan-African operator, announced the appointment of Vodafone Egypt’s CEO Mohamed Abdallah as the CEO of Vodacom’s international markets on Tuesday.

Abdallah, currently the CEO of Vodafone Egypt, has taken on a more comprehensive regional executive leadership role to promote growth and operational excellence in more African regions.

Abdallah to oversee DRC, Tanzania, Lesotho, Mozambique

In this enlarged role, he will be in charge of operations in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Lesotho, and Mozambique, in addition to Egypt.

According to Vodacom, it is consolidating these markets under a single leadership framework to streamline its business model, promote strategic expansion, and improve customer experiences in accordance with its Vision 2030 goals.

Abdallah’s portfolio

Abdallah began working at Vodafone Egypt in 1998 and has held several high-level leadership roles, such as customer business director and enterprise business director.

As CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Vodacom claimed to have strengthened the company’s position as the nation’s market leader by delivering robust growth in the consumer, business, and financial services sectors.

Diego Gutierrez steps down

From the standpoint of International Markets, Abdallah takes over from Diego Gutierrez, who resigned as head of Vodacom’s international division at the end of April 2025 after serving in that capacity for seven years.

According to Vodacom, since 2017, Gutierrez has been instrumental in guiding crucial changes and producing strong results in all four of Vodacom’s foreign markets.

Abdallah to report to Vodacom Group’s CEO

Under the new arrangement, Abdallah will continue to answer directly to Shameel Joosub, the CEO of Vodacom Group, while the CEOs of Vodacom DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania will report to him.

According to Joosub, Abdallah is an accomplished CEO with a track record of producing excellent business outcomes.

“His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to scale our international portfolio and embed our purpose-led strategy across the continent. We are confident that under Mohamed’s expanded leadership, our International Markets will continue to thrive and deliver outstanding results,” Joosub said in a statement about Abdallah’s appointment.

Mohamed Abdallah said, “Taking on this new role is a privilege, as I am passionate about driving connectivity and innovation to empower individuals and businesses across Africa. Vodafone Group is uniquely positioned to shape Africa’s digital future, and together with the incredible teams at Vodacom Group, we will work to build a more digitally inclusive future that uplifts communities and accelerates socio-economic development within the Africa region.”
