Vodafone announced Wednesday the launch of a new digital travel platform called Travel eSIM, which will give users of any network dependable and reasonably priced data connectivity while on the road.

Benefits of Vodafone’s Travel eSIMs

Vodafone’s Travel eSIMs allow users to add mobile data and maintain their current number while travelling, regardless of the network they are on. This allows users to communicate worry-free while accessing emails and messages, viewing digital maps, and using translation services. Before their journey, users can download the app or visit the website, install the eSIM, and select or make their own plan in a matter of minutes.

Vodafone wants to use Travel eSIM to reach new customer segments worldwide by fusing its extensive geographic reach with a faster activation time and an improved digital experience. This supports research commissioned by Vodafone, which indicates that 84 percent of 2,000 respondents would consider using such a service if it was affordable and practical and allowed them to keep their number. Users can also avoid the hassle of searching for free Wi-Fi options upon arrival or standing in line for a local physical SIM card. Instead, customers can enable data connectivity in roughly 90 seconds with Travel eSIM.

This service enables users to use their eSIM-capable smartphone or device extensively in one or more countries. Vodafone is using 700 mobile networks to extend the service to 206 places worldwide, with 98 of those networks having 5G connection. Users will have access to one of the most extensive high-speed data networks of any service of a similar nature.

Vodafone’s GenAI virtual assistant, SuperTOBI, offers improved customer support in multiple languages and can comprehend and answer complex customer enquiries more quickly and effectively than conventional chatbots.

Margherita Della Valle, CEO of Vodafone, said, “With our new digital platform, we are offering users of all networks across the world a worry-free, easy-to-use travel experience in more than 200 countries. The Vodafone Travel eSIM service is set to be the ideal international data service for any mobile user.”

Data packages

The Vodafone Travel eSIM service only permits data usage, which encompasses and reflects the increasing use of email, video, and internet calling and access when travelling abroad. In addition to a variety of data packages, such as build-your-own-bundle possibilities and data top-ups, mobile hotspots can be established. Standard phone calls and text messages are not included, so customers can keep utilising these services as usual with their existing or roaming cell price plans.

Vodafone Travel eSIM provides a practical option for travel connectivity at a time when traditional roaming services and eSIM spending are expected to increase from €3.1 billion to almost €7 billion by 2028. Through strategic alliances with other companies, Vodafone also hopes to expand the reach of Travel eSIM and add related services, such as travel insurance. The first is Uber One, which promotes new members by providing Travel eSIMs in 44 European countries.

About eSIM

An eSIM is a SIM feature already built into a gadget, such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

It eliminates the need to purchase a separate physical SIM card or prepaid phone when travelling and provides quick setup, simplicity of use, and a fully digital experience.

How Travel eSIM works

To use Travel eSIM, follow these four easy steps:

1. Go to travel.vodafone.com and choose a data package.

2. Get a QR code via email

3. When you get overseas, activate your eSIM.

4. Navigate, stream, and surf directly

Vodafone customers can quickly activate their eSIMs after downloading or receiving them via email or the iOS and Android app stores. All data plans include the option of data top-ups. It can be used in parallel with an existing SIM, such as in dual SIM mode on the iPhone, and customers retain their original SIM and number for calls and texts.

Travel eSIM price plans

Billing is available in multiple currencies, and the eSIM can be activated up to 30 days after purchase.

Packages in Europe start at €4/£3.50/$4, those in North America at €6/£5.50/$6, those in the Middle East at €8/£7/$8, and those in Africa at €10/£8.50/$11.
