WeRide, Uber expand self-driving vehicle partnership to 15 cities worldwide

Uber Technologies, Inc., the largest mobility and delivery platform in the world, and WeRide, a leader in autonomous driving technology, on Tuesday announced a major extension of their previously announced partnership, adding 15 more cities worldwide over the next five years.

With both businesses setting the standard for supplying cutting-edge technology, this strengthened collaboration expedites WeRide and Uber’s common objective of bringing autonomous mobility to the world.

The companies have pledged to extend their autonomous vehicle partnership to multiple new cities annually, all outside of the US and China, after a successful launch in Abu Dhabi and soon Dubai. WeRide’s Robotaxi services will be accessible in these cities via the Uber app, with Uber handling fleet management.

WeRide’s CEO and Uber’s CEO express their enthusiasm about the partnership

“We are excited to take our partnership with Uber to new heights. Expanding into new cities across multiple continents reflects both companies’ confidence in our technology and our shared commitment to innovative, sustainable transportation solutions,” said Tony Han, founder and CEO of WeRide. “This expansion aligns with WeRide’s ambitious strategy for global growth – to make autonomous driving solutions more affordable and accessible to people worldwide.”

“Today’s announcement – one of the biggest partnerships of its kind ever announced – is a significant milestone towards realising the promise of autonomous mobility in more places around the world,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “By leveraging Uber’s global scale, operational expertise, and leading marketplace technology, we are thrilled to partner with cutting-edge AV companies like WeRide to help them commercialise their vehicles and bring the benefits of autonomy to more riders.”
