Google’s AI-powered new WhatsApp tool, “Writing Help,” changes how people write and edit messages. Within the app, this tool lets users adjust the tone of texts, rephrase sentences, and fix mistakes.

With just a few taps, you could turn a simple warning into a funny note or airbrush a casual statement to make it sound more serious.

Writing Help can help you do that, which makes writing smarter and easier than ever.

How writing helps adjust message tone, style

Writing Help advises on a range of styles, such as formal, humorous, encouraging, or casual, so that users can choose the right tone for the case.

You could write “Please don’t leave dirty socks on the sofa” as “Please don’t turn the sofa into a sock graveyard” or “Hey, sock ninja, the laundry basket is that way!” to make it funnier.

This ability to change tones helps people say what they want more clearly and with the right attitude, without starting from scratch.

Privacy protected by advanced AI technology

Writing Help’s strong focus on privacy is one of the things that makes it stand out. With Meta’s Private Processing technology, the AI ideas are created.

This means that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can see the original messages or the rewrites made by AI. Processing is done in a way that protects privacy, giving users personalised help without revealing their personal information.

Security experts outside the company have checked this system to ensure it encrypts and protects messages.

How to use WhatsApp’s writing help feature

To use Writing Help, users must tap the new pencil icon in personal or group chats while writing a letter. So, AI can make ideas for rephrasing or changing the tone, and users can choose to accept, change, or ignore them.

The tool is optional and turned off by default. It is currently rolling out in English in a few countries, including the US. Later this year, it will be available in more languages and to more people.

This AI tool is built into WhatsApp, so users don’t have to use other apps to write polished texts.

With just a few taps, WhatsApp’s Writing Help makes changing messages easier and safer for privacy, letting users say what they want in the best way possible. The most popular chat app in the world now has a brand-new, innovative messaging tool that makes it even better.
