Meta owns the popular messaging app WhatsApp, is working on a new feature that will let users find friends by their usernames instead of just their phone numbers.

WABetaInfo, a trusted source for WhatsApp news, shared the news, saying that the feature is still being worked on and is not yet ready for beta testers.

This possible update could change a lot about how people talk on WhatsApp and make it more private.

How will the function work on WhatsApp?

Users may only need to give their chosen username to start a chat instead of giving personal phone numbers or QR codes. It’s important to note that end-to-end encryption is said to stay the same for talks that start with usernames.

“Because WhatsApp users will be able to choose a username, they will be able to add another layer of protection to their accounts. This means that users won’t have to use phone numbers alone to identify their friends. Instead, they can choose a unique username,” WABetaInfo wrote.

Also, it will let users connect with other WhatsApp users by adding their usernames instead of their contact numbers.

WhatsApp adds a change button feature

WhatsApp has recently added the ability to change texts.

In an announcement, Meta Platforms Inc.’s messaging service stated that “you can now edit your sent messages if you make a mistake or just change your mind.”

You can now “edit” a sent message within a fifteen-minute timeframe by just long-pressing it.

You can use this functionality to fix typos or provide context when it’s missing from your communications. Edited communications will bear the term “edited” but not the edit history in order to maintain transparency.

Additionally, end-to-end encryption will still be used to safeguard your messages and revisions, guaranteeing the confidentiality and security of your communications.

The global rollout of this function has begun, and in the upcoming weeks, everyone will be able to use it.

Additionally, the Meta-owned app introduced “Chat Lock” just last week, which allows users to secure specific one-on-one or group chats with a password or biometric authentication, preventing message notifications from appearing.
