Yas Tanzania has launched a bold digital inclusion campaign in Zanzibar, titled “Anzia Ulipo” in Swahili for “Start Where You Are.” The campaign aims to inspire innovation and expand access to technology across the islands. It was officially unveiled on Tuesday, marking a new chapter in digital empowerment for the region.
Driving digital empowerment through Innovation and Access
The Anzia Ulipo campaign urges Zanzibaris to leverage existing resources and technology to transform their lives without waiting for ideal conditions. Yas Zanzibar Director Aziz Ali Said emphasised, “We want to inspire every young person, every entrepreneur, every creative in Zanzibar to use what they have today and begin their journey toward success.” This mindset shift is crucial in a region where many youth feel limited by circumstances.
Yas has heavily invested in expanding high-speed 4G and 5G networks in Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania, providing a robust digital infrastructure that supports education, healthcare, agriculture, and business sectors. “We are witnessing a surge in online businesses, digital farming solutions, youth-led content creation, and tech-driven fashion design,” Mr. Aziz noted, highlighting how technology is already transforming everyday life.
The campaign also includes workshops, mentorships, and access to digital tools designed to upskill youth and bridge the digital divide. Yas CEO Pierre Canton-Bacara explained, “By highlighting real-life success stories and leveraging our strong infrastructure, we aim to inspire action, promote digital inclusion, and empower citizens to unlock their full potential.”
Yas’s commitment to Inclusive digital growth and economic participation
Yas Tanzania’s initiative reflects a broader vision of digital empowerment as a driver of economic development and national pride. The campaign seeks to promote technology adoption and empower individuals psychologically and economically, especially those who feel constrained by limited opportunities.
Since rebranding from Tigo to Yas in late 2024, the company has intensified its focus on digital innovation and financial inclusion. In the first 100 days of rebranding, Yas launched the Magift ya Kugift campaign, distributing prizes such as cars, cash, and smartphones to customers, further cementing its role as a key player in Tanzania’s digital economy.
Yas’s Chief Commercial Officer Isaac Nchunda highlighted the company’s dedication: “We want to be known as a corporate citizen to every stakeholder and to provide the best digital solutions for Tanzanians.” Partnerships with local innovators, educators, and tech hubs ensure the campaign reaches grassroots communities, making digital tools accessible to all.
This campaign is a call to action for Zanzibar’s youth to embrace technology as a gateway to opportunity and success, supported by a company committed to walking alongside them in their digital journeys
