In a major step towards the nation’s digital transformation, the World Bank and the Government of the Republic of Zambia have started the technical review of components under the Digital Zambia Acceleration Project (DZAP) on Monday.

Utilising the multiphase programming approach under the Inclusive Digitalisation for Eastern and Southern Africa Program (IDEA), the four-day summit began today, February 3, 2025. This strategy is intended to help Zambia’s endeavours to enhance the lives of its people and hasten its digital transformation. SMART Zambia National Coordinator Mr. Pery Chinyama stressed the need for honesty and unity of purpose in carrying out the project in his introductory remarks.

“We have a task at hand, and every single one of us plays a critical role in achieving our goals,” Mr CHINYAMA said.

Importance of Digital Zambia Acceleration Project

Mr. Chinyama emphasised the project’s significance by saying that it will allow Zambia to establish a digital identification system, which will facilitate citizens’ access to necessary services.

“We aim to ensure every Zambian has a digital ID and access to the internet, driving our country’s digital transformation,” he said.

In order to guarantee the project’s success, Mr. Chinyama urged all parties involved to cooperate.

“We must collaborate and support each other to achieve our goals. This project is not just about technology; it’s about transforming our country and improving the lives of our citizens,” he said.

Roadmap for DZAP’s implementation

It is anticipated that the technical review meeting, which is being attended by representatives of the World Bank, several government agencies, and other stakeholders, will end on Thursday, February 6th, 2025, with a clear implementation strategy for the project.

In Zambia, the project’s emphasis on developing digital infrastructure will also contribute to closing the digital divide and guaranteeing that all residents can take advantage of digital technologies. Consequently, this will boost economic expansion, promote governance, and raise the standard of living for Zambians in general.

By 2030, Zambia wants to become a thriving middle-income country, and the DZAP project is a major part of that goal. The accomplishment of this objective and the guarantee of a better future for every Zambian will depend on the project’s success.
