Senegal’s “New technological deal” initiative to transform its digital sector by 2034 has received support from the French telecom company, Orange.
During a meeting with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Thursday, January 30, Christel Heydemann, CEO of French telecom company Orange, reaffirmed the company’s support for the “New Technology Deal.”
The program aims to modernise the nation’s digital infrastructure and enhance connectivity.

The nation has the backing of important strategic partners and aims to become one of Africa’s leading technological hubs.
“At Orange, we are convinced that technology must be a force for emancipation and progress for all. Alongside the Sonatel Group [Senegalese subsidiary of the Orange Group], we will continue to invest to make this ambition concrete,” she said.
Senegal to expedite digital transformation
The discussion addresses Senegal’s aim to work with significant technology industry companies in order to expedite its digital transition.
As one of the biggest telecom providers in the nation, Orange may be able to work with the government as a strategic partner to help with the process.
With 12.8 million subscribers as of March 31, 2024, or 56.02 percent of the market, the operator leads the Senegalese market, according to figures from the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARTP). Expresso (16.6 percent), Free (24 percent), Promobile (3 percent), and Hayo (0.1 percent).

Due to Orange’s dedication, investments in digital infrastructure may be made, increasing access to digital services and stimulating innovation.
Additionally, efforts to boost the digital economy in Senegal may be made possible by this partnership.
Recall that as of March 31, 2024, ARTP data showed that 99.06 percent of Senegalese people were using mobile Internet.
