Multichoice Nigeria has raised the price of its DStv and GOtv packages effective from March 1, 2025. It informed its consumers of this in a statement on Monday.

The statement titled, “Price adjustments for DStv and GOtv packages,” read, “Dear Customer, please note that effective 1 March 2025, there will be a price adjustment on all DStv packages.”

“This is to enable us to continue to offer our customers world-class homegrown and international content, delivered through the best technology,” it emphasised.

The company’s last price review was about a year ago, for which the business attributed the increase to inflation and the growing expenses of doing business in Nigeria.

Breakdown of DStv, GOtv’s price review

As to the company’s most recent price review revealed on Monday, the DStv Compact bouquet will now cost N19,000 instead of N15,700, the Compact Plus will cost N30,000, and the Premium subscription would cost N44,500.

In the same vein, GOtv subscribers who currently pay N3,600 will now pay N3,900, and GOtv Plus’s cost will increase from N4,850 to N5,800.

The Supa and Supa Plus packages will now cost N11,400 and N16,800, respectively, while the GoTV max bundle will now cost N8,500.

According to MultiChoice, the parent firm of DStv and GOtv, the price hike is the result of rising operating expenses in Nigeria.

With the value of the naira sharply declining and strong inflation driving up operating costs, it indicates currency depreciation.

Previous MultiChoice’s GOtv, DStv price increases

The most recent price increase occurred in spite of the Pay-TV company’s significant subscriber loss from many pricing increases last year.

Multichoice raised their pricing twice in 2023—once in April and once in November—beyond its customary yearly price rise.

The business raised prices again on May 1st of last year, which infuriated consumers and led to a challenge by irate subscribers to the Consumer Protection Tribunal (CPT).

According to Multichoice Group’s September 2024 report, during the six months from April to September, it loss 243,000 customers across its DStv and GOtv services in Nigeria.

However, the company attributed the loss of subscribers to Nigeria’s high rate of inflation, which at the time was over 30 percent and was caused by the high price of petrol, electricity, and food. Multichoice claims that many of its customers were forced to stop using their decoders as a result of this.
