Betika, a leading betting firm in Kenya, denied any cybersecurity breach despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. The company strongly refutes claims of losing KES 11 million or being hacked.

Such accusations arose following media reports and social media discussions linking a university student to an alleged hack targeting Betika’s platform. Yet, Betika clarifies that these reports are erroneous, and their systems or customer data have not been compromised.

No cybersecurity Incident at Betika

Betika assures its customers and the public that its cybersecurity defences have not been breached. The company emphasises it is neither a complainant nor a victim in any current court case related to hacking or fraud.

In fact, Betika upholds some of the highest security standards, deploying encryption, intrusion detection systems, continuous monitoring, and regular third-party audits to safeguard its systems.

The firm also maintains compliance with global information security best practices and data protection regulations to ensure the safe and private protection of customer information.

Commitment to data protection

At the core of Betika’s operations is a strong commitment to protecting user data. The company’s privacy policies include multiple layers of protection against unauthorised access or misuse.

Betika protects personal information by adhering to strict protocols, including encryption and staff training, while engaging with regulators and law enforcement agencies to continually enhance security. Users’ sensitive data, including identification and transaction details, is securely managed under frameworks to prevent breaches or illegal data exposure.

The background of the claims

The allegations stem from a separate fraud case involving a student accused of conducting cyber fraud transactions worth over KES 11 million through a related banking platform.

However, this case does not include any verified breach of Betika’s systems. Betika has openly requested the media to confirm facts and avoid conflating the ongoing investigation with unfounded claims about the company’s security.

Betika’s denial underlines its focus on security and transparency amidst rumours and misinformation.

The company continues to strengthen its systems and ensure a safe betting environment for its users, dispelling any rumours of cyber incidents or losses.

This approach reinforces Betika’s image as a trustworthy platform committed to data security and integrity.
