Reason for outage

According to the company, the issue started with DynamoDB, a database service housed in US-EAST-1, one of Amazon’s major data centers in Virginia, USA.

Users who were still impacted by the outage were encouraged to try clearing their DNS caches.

Major websites and apps around the world experienced serious issues as a result of the disruption. The AI startup Perplexity, the trading app Robinhood, the messaging app Signal, and the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase all reported problems related to the AWS outage.

In the course of the outage, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas stated in an X post, “Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it.”

AWS competing with tech giants Google and Microsoft

Offering businesses and institutions on-demand computing power, data storage, and other digital services, AWS is one of the biggest cloud computing providers in the world, competing with Google and Microsoft.

Due to the large number of businesses that rely on its infrastructure, issues with AWS servers have the potential to disrupt the entire internet.
