The initiative, launched in partnership with CypherCrescent Limited, targets 300 and 400-level students studying science, engineering and technology-related courses in public universities across Nigeria. The programme, known as the Catch the Researcher Young Programme (CRYP), aims to prepare students for careers in technology, innovation and applied research.
Applications close on June 15, 2026, according to information released by the NCDMB. Eligible students are expected to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and must also be registered on the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Joint Qualifications System portal.
Focus on Digital Skills
The training programme will be delivered virtually and will include access to digital laboratories, mentorship sessions and applied research support. Participants will receive instruction in data analytics, cloud computing, digital transformation frameworks, and modern research methods.
According to the NCDMB, the programme was introduced to help young Nigerians build practical technology skills that align with current industry needs. The board stated that students would also receive guidance from experts across various technical fields, helping them bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace expectations.
Preferred areas of study include Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Mechatronics Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geosciences and related disciplines. Applicants must also possess a functional laptop and a reliable internet connection to participate in the virtual sessions.
Support for Innovation and Research
Beyond technical training, the programme will support selected participants with research projects and innovation incubation opportunities. Organisers say the initiative will encourage students to develop practical solutions that can contribute to national development and industrial growth.
The NCDMB has expanded its youth-focused digital training efforts in recent years as Nigeria increases investment in technology-driven education and workforce development. Earlier this year, the board completed another digital skills programme involving 60 youths from different regions of the country.
Industry observers note that demand for digital and research competencies continues to rise across sectors, including oil and gas, engineering, finance and information technology. Studies on Nigeria’s digital economy have also highlighted the growing role of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data-driven systems in shaping future employment opportunities.
