Airtel Uganda’s investment in network densification

This accomplishment follows Airtel’s continued investment in network densification to enhance customer satisfaction.  The company has been gradually increasing deployments, adding dozens of new 5G sites in recent months and expanding coverage from central Kampala to significant regional centres, according to CEO and Managing Director Soumendra Sahu.

He pointed out that while the first rollout focused on urban centres, current initiatives prioritise expanding access to other major cities outside the capital.

Application of 5G network

Sahu hinted that the expansion of 4G and 5G networks is an investment to support the nation’s digital transformation agenda and growing need to boost ICT use cases and adoption.

Home broadband, digital learning, telemedicine, manufacturing, commercial agriculture, remote work, innovative business solutions, faster content delivery, and enhanced customer experience are among the most significant uses of 5G.

These applications, among many others that require high-speed connections, are the primary rationale for ongoing investment in next-generation networks.

To ensure network upgrades deliver noticeable improvements for regular users, particularly their video experiences, he also noted that Airtel’s strategic approach to launching new websites involves acting “ahead of need” and listening to customer feedback.

“We view 5G as an enabler rather than a headline technology. This is progressive rather than a finish line, reinforcing a longer-term commitment to strengthening network quality, supporting the digital economy, and ensuring that high-capacity connectivity is available where people live, work, and do business,” he said.
