Focus on Youth-Driven Healthcare Solutions

Organisers say the challenge builds on lessons from the 2025 edition and aims to support early-stage innovators with practical solutions to Africa’s healthcare needs. Applicants are expected to present projects that combine technology, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

The competition is open to African STEM graduates with a strong interest in healthcare innovation. Women innovators are also being encouraged to apply as part of efforts to improve inclusion in Africa’s growing technology sector.

Selected participants will join a data-centred hackathon where they will refine their ideas with guidance from experts in healthcare, business development, and innovation management. The programme will also expose innovators to opportunities to collaborate with other young entrepreneurs from across Africa.

Fellowship Support and Training Opportunities

Winners of the Innovation Fellowship Award will receive a four-month fellowship stipend to help them focus on developing their projects. Participants will also gain entry into the AIMS Rwanda Innovation Programme, which offers entrepreneurship support and access to innovation resources.

The fellowship package includes mentorship from international experts, technical training, and business growth sessions covering product development, startup strategy, and digital health applications. Participants will also connect with investors, development agencies, and leaders within Africa’s innovation ecosystem.

According to AIMS Rwanda, the initiative seeks to empower a new generation of African innovators to create scalable healthcare tools with measurable social impact.

Deadline Set for June Applications

Applications for the 2026 AIMS SDG Innovation Challenge close on 1 June 2026 at 11:59 PM GMT+2. Interested applicants are expected to submit proposals before the deadline through the official application portal.

The programme arrives at a time when African health systems continue to seek technology-driven approaches to challenges such as limited healthcare access, shortages of medical infrastructure, and uneven digital adoption. AIMS supports solutions that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and promote youth-led innovation across the continent.
