Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations announced that more than 12,000 learners successfully completed courses under the One Million Coders Program shortly after Phase Two of the initiative began on May 11, 2026. The figures suggest that interest in digital skills training is exceeding initial expectations.
Analytics from the program’s learning platforms show 12,623 course completions across students, entrepreneurs, teachers, public servants, market women, persons with disabilities, and young professionals in all 16 regions of Ghana.
Nationwide Reach
The figures reflect the broad demographic reach the One Million Coders Program has achieved through its three delivery channels: in-person training centres, virtual instruction, and self-paced online learning.
The program currently operates across 130 learning centres nationwide, each equipped with specialised laptops configured for coding and digital training.
The program’s infrastructure was established ahead of the rollout. Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George distributed 6,500 Lenovo laptops to Regional Managers of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication and 2,000 laptops to 12 universities.
Public and Private Support
Private sector backing has also strengthened the initiative’s reach. MTN Ghana contributed $2 million to the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations to support the program, with the funds used to procure about 2,000 laptops for selected universities.
Minister George has been direct about what the One Million Coders Program must deliver beyond course completions.
“Our goal is not just to train a million people, but to ensure that after training they can secure employment or remote jobs with internationally recognised certifications,” he said.
The minister said the government’s focus is not only on training participants but also on helping them obtain globally recognised certifications and access sustainable employment opportunities, particularly in remote digital roles.
Focus on Future Jobs
The One Million Coders Program trains young Ghanaians in software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital entrepreneurship, and aims to reach one million people over four years.
With more than 12,600 course completions recorded within weeks of Phase Two’s launch, the initiative is already showing early signs of momentum as Ghana seeks to build a larger digitally skilled workforce.
