The telecommunications company has opened applications for its latest bursary cycle, targeting high-performing undergraduate students across South Africa. The initiative aims to expand access to tertiary education and help students prepare for careers in fast-growing sectors of the country’s digital economy.

The programme supports students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects, as well as selected business and commercial disciplines. Vodacom says the bursary forms part of its long-term investment in education and workforce development in South Africa.

Full Financial Support for Students

Successful applicants will receive extensive financial assistance covering major university expenses. The bursary includes full tuition fees, accommodation support, textbook allowances and meal support for eligible students.

In addition to direct academic funding, beneficiaries will receive laptops and mobile devices to support their studies. Vodacom stated that the programme seeks to remove financial barriers that often prevent talented students from completing higher education.

The company has also introduced professional support measures to help students transition into the workplace after graduation. These include orientation sessions, workplace exposure opportunities, and work-readiness training for final-year students.

Focus on STEM and Future Skills

The bursary places strong emphasis on STEM education as South Africa continues to expand its digital and technology sectors. Vodacom noted that the initiative supports national efforts to increase the number of skilled professionals in industries linked to innovation, business growth and connectivity.

The programme details show that students will have access to structured vacation work opportunities that expose them to professional environments while they’re still studying. Wellness support services will also be made available through external partnerships.

The company said the programme combines academic support with practical industry preparation, helping graduates build both technical knowledge and workplace experience before entering the labour market.

Eligibility and Application Deadline

Applicants must be South African citizens by birth and enrolled in full-time undergraduate studies at a recognised South African tertiary institution. Grade 12 learners applying for the bursary are expected to have achieved at least 70 per cent in their final results, while current university students must maintain an average of 65 per cent or higher.

Vodacom stated that applications must be submitted online, along with supporting academic documents and transcripts. The company advised applicants to carefully review all eligibility requirements before completing the process.

The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2026, after which applications will undergo academic screening and document verification before final selections are made.

Education advocates say bursary programmes such as this continue to play an important role in widening access to higher education and helping students from diverse backgrounds pursue careers in high-demand sectors.
