In addition to enhancing operational efficiency, transparency, and real-time data visibility across its rapidly expanding retail network, MEA Energy stated that implementing SmartPump technology will enable faster, more convenient self-service at its filling stations.
SmartPump to automate fuel stations
Petrosoft has developed a proprietary solution, SmartPump, designed to provide fuel stations with specialised automation. The technology enables downstream energy companies to enhance their control over retail operations by providing real-time oversight of fuel inventory, sales performance, and pump accuracy.
MEA Energy Trading Limited, a subsidiary of a renowned commodities and trade finance consortium headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, expressed its unwavering confidence in the SmartPump platform to support its expanding network of retail fuel and liquefied petroleum gas stations nationwide.
According to Chris Vassilopoulos, MEA Energy’s Chief Commercial Officer, the partnership reflects the companies’ shared ambition to establish a new standard for fuel retailing in Africa.
He believes the partnership is the “Station of the Future” for the continent, combining Nigeria’s technological innovation with the UAE’s financial strength to drive growth in the downstream sector.
“Following an exhaustive global search for a technology partner capable of meeting the rigorous demands of the African energy market, MEA Energy identified Petrosoft’s SmartPump solution as the gold standard for automation, transparency, and operational efficiency,” Vassilopoulos said in a statement.
MEA Energy’s overarching objective
According to Vassilopoulos, the company’s overarching objective is to enhance the quality of Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas industry by implementing SmartPump.
“Our mission at MEA Energy is to bring international standards of excellence to the Nigerian downstream sector, and by partnering with Petrosoft and deploying the SmartPump technology, we are not just buying software; we are investing in a transparent ecosystem that eliminates leakages and optimises our supply chain while guaranteeing our customers receive accurate dispensing at every visit,” he said.
Dr. Joshua Denila, the Chief Executive Officer of Petrosoft, stated that MEA Energy’s implementation of SmartPump is indicative of a growing trend among downstream operators in Africa regarding the management of high-volume retail assets.
Denila stated that the SmartPump system was engineered to operate reliably across diverse environments and to be resilient and adaptable, making it suitable for Nigeria’s expanding energy infrastructure.
He emphasised the SmartPump platform’s numerous advantages, including eliminating product shrinkage and unauthorised syphoning through real-time tank gauging and advanced calibration monitoring, ensuring zero-loss integrity.
SmartPump features
Additional features include remote management capabilities that enable operators to audit inventory, adjust prices, and monitor station performance via a secure, cloud-based interface, reducing the need for frequent on-site visits.
Denila also observed that SmartPump integrates logistics operations by connecting fuel depots, tanker fleets, and retail pumps, thereby guaranteeing precise tracking of each litre from transit to sale. This is particularly beneficial for companies such as MEA Energy, which manage their own transportation networks.
Furthermore, he stated that the technology fosters customer confidence by ensuring automated, tamper-proof fuel dispensing, helping operators build lasting brand loyalty in an increasingly competitive retail fuel market.
Petrosoft has reiterated its dedication to developing its presence in Africa as a global leader in back-office and retail automation, providing downstream operators with technology that enhances accountability, transparency, and efficiency.
