Angola Cables, a global network and digital solutions provider, reported record traffic. A statement revealed this. According to the announcement, the cable business reached a record 18448 Tbps, controlling over 70% of internet and data flows to and from Africa.
Reports from the company say record-high traffic on its network is due to more people using digital content, the rapid growth of cloud computing services, and the need for fast, low-latency connections.
Rui Faria, Executive Board member and Chief Commercial Officer for Angola Cables, explained that previous cable faults in Africa and the Red Sea had diverted substantial amounts of traffic to other cables. Despite this, the company’s backbone network traffic has grown steadily and significantly.

The Angola Cables fibre network point handles over 70% of African internet and data traffic. Rui Faria stated that hyper scalers, streaming, and gaming networks use SACS, the Angola Cables backbone, and partner networks to connect to Europe and Asia at lower latencies.

CAIDA rankings are based on the ‘cone size’ or number of connections related to its registered Autonomous System Number (ASN) and the number of direct and indirect customers or links deduced from BGP pathways. Today, Angola Cables has a capacity across more than 80,000 km of subsea cable networks, with multiple links to many data centres and global IXPs.
Speaking about its latest feat, Fernando Fernandes, the Chief Executive Officer for TelCables Nigeria (the local operation for Nigeria and West African countries of Angola Cables), said this milestone underscores Angola Cables’ growing responsibility and responsiveness to customer needs in West African markets, with an emphasis on improved Service Level Agreements (SLA).
