Keep reading for the full breakdown on AI — everything you need to know is covered below.

With a deadline of April 26, 2026, the programme offers selected fellows funding, mentorship, and access to advanced research tools to explore pressing questions in AI safety, security, and systems development.

Run by Anthropic, a public benefit company focused on building reliable and interpretable AI systems, the fellowship targets individuals with strong technical potential. Organisers emphasise that applicants do not need formal credentials if they demonstrate curiosity, execution ability, and a clear interest in advancing safe AI systems.

Intensive Research with Real-World Impact

The fellowship is structured as a full-time research experience, requiring about 40 hours of work per week over four months. Participants are expected to produce tangible outputs such as research papers or technical reports. Past cohorts have shown strong results, with over 80 per cent of fellows publishing their work.

Fellows will conduct empirical research using open-source models and public APIs, contributing to ongoing efforts in AI safety and performance. The programme also encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together expertise from machine learning, cybersecurity, economics, and policy.

Funding, Mentorship, and Global Access

Selected participants will receive a weekly stipend ranging from 2,310 GBP to 4,300 CAD (or 3,850 USD), alongside research funding of about 15,000 USD per month for computing and infrastructure. Fellows will also gain access to shared workspaces in Berkeley and London, and remote participation is available to eligible candidates based in the United States, the United Kingdom, or Canada.

Mentorship is a central component of the programme, with fellows working closely with leading researchers. Participants will also join a wider research community focused on improving the safety and reliability of advanced AI systems. However, applicants must already have work authorisation in eligible countries, as visa sponsorship is not provided.

Multiple Tracks Across AI Research Fields

The programme spans several specialised workstreams, allowing candidates to contribute across diverse areas of AI research. The AI Safety track focuses on issues such as model alignment, interpretability, and oversight. The AI Security stream explores vulnerability research, red teaming, and system robustness.

Other tracks include Machine Learning Systems and Performance, which targets infrastructure and scalability challenges, and Reinforcement Learning, which focuses on training methods and experimentation. The Economics and Societal Impacts stream examines how AI affects labour markets, human collaboration, and policy outcomes.

Application Process and Timeline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the next cohort scheduled to begin on July 20, 2026. The selection process includes application screening, reference checks, technical interviews, and research discussions with potential mentors.

Organisers encourage applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds to apply, noting that the programme prioritises motivation and research potential over rigid qualifications. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official Anthropic careers portal before the April 26 deadline.

Interested applicants can apply through the official website.
