Blizzard Entertainment is again returning to StarCraft to develop a new title for the series, the third time the company has attempted to introduce the franchise to first-person shooter games. This project, which is in the “incubation” stage, has attracted interest from the gaming industry.
According to Jason Schreier, journalist and author of the upcoming book *Play Nice: This game is currently in the making at Snowdrop, a newly incorporated studio managed by Blizzard and headed by a somewhat experienced hand, Dan Hay, an ex-Ubisoft Far Cry series supervisor.

What can we expect from future StarCraft Shooters?
It is worth noting that Blizzard is still attempting to build a shooter based on the StarCraft universe. This recent project was preceded by two others, which never passed the starting line. The first was StarCraft: Ghost, which was planned in 2002, but after several years of development problems, it was cancelled in 2006. Then, around 2019, Blizzard stopped developing another unannounced StarCraft shooter project with the code Ares, according to more critical projects such as Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4.
However, given enough support from the franchises and fans, the company seems willing to make the third try a success.
Can this time be different?
StarCraft’s new shooter from Blizzard is managed by Dan Hay, who started working in the company in 2022 after working in Ubisoft. Hay, who has previously worked on other large-scale open-world shooters, especially Far Cry, will bring more confidence to the project. His leadership could do this because, before _Odyssey_, which was an original IP, Blizzard had been working on before this StarCraft shooter game was cancelled.
It remains to be seen how much of the game’s mechanics or story has been worked out in detail, but we have Schreier’s assurance that they’re all-in on StarCraft this time. The modern remaster of the StarCraft series and opportunities to play the games, such as the Xbox Game Pass, means that Blizzard already wants to grow the franchise as fans eagerly continue to turn up.

Will it be a game-changer?
However, there are some precautions among gamers as well. Conflicting with StarCraft shooters, Blizzard is quite sceptical about the success of such a project. Two rescheduled games [and the general movement towards] change, so are This is different for Apex Legends, as delivering a game that will satisfy the expectations of StarCraft while also making a statement about being a unique shooter is a tall order.
Still, there seems to be an inevitable resurgence of optimistic sentiment, mainly because of the relatively recent hype caused by Schreier and Hayes. Is this their critical moment to pull off a Starcraft shooter? As always, only time will tell; however, one thing is for sure: fans of this series will be highly interested in this project.
