Ethiopia’s top telecom and digital solutions provider, Ethio Telecom, has launched 5G services in the cities of Dessie and Kombolcha on Saturday, continuing its nationwide 5G development.

This accomplishment is a major step in the company’s goal to hasten Ethiopia’s digital transformation by guaranteeing fast connectivity and opening up fresh avenues for economic expansion and creativity.

Through the launch, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to improving digital accessibility and empowering Ethiopia to fully utilise next-generation connectivity.

Locations to access Ethio Telecom’s 5G network in Dessie and Kombolcha city

The Dessie City Administration Office, South Wollo Zone Administration Office, Dessie Ethio Telecom Office, Wollo University Main Campus, Lucy Hotel, and Dessie Museum locations can now access the network.

Concurrently in Kombolcha City, specifically in the vicinity of the Kombolcha City Administration Offices, Kombolcha Polytechnic College, and the Kombolcha Campus of Wollo University.

Through expanded smartphone access, the expansion bridges the digital divide by facilitating online education and training, which in turn encourages innovation and job development for businesses.

Transformation of industries through 5G technology 

Among the important industries that 5G technology is transforming are healthcare, agriculture, education, manufacturing, transportation, mining, and entertainment.

Through operational modernisation, Ethiopia’s position in the global digital economy is strengthened and productivity is increased, as well as new revenue opportunities are generated.

Addis Ababa, Adama, Jigjiga, Dire Dawa, Harar, Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Wolaita Sodo, Hosaena, Arba Minch, Bishoftu, Jimma, Dessie, and Kombolcha are among the fourteen cities that the firm has extended 5G since establishing Ethiopia’s first 5G network in Addis Ababa in 2022.

Customers will require 5G-capable devices in order to use these services. The company encourage consumers to visit service centres to view the available 5G-capable devices and, if necessary, upgrade their SIM cards.

With this extension, thousands of customers will have access to ultra-fast mobile connectivity, facilitating seamless communication, quicker data rates, and digital transformation across industries.
