Ethio Telecom on Wednesday announced a strategic partnership with the Jimma City Administration to establish a Smart City initiative, which is a major milestone in the city’s digital transformation. This is coming after the rollout of its 5G network in Jimma City On Monday.

With a comprehensive digital solution that includes cloud infrastructure, a call centre, a reliable data centre, high-quality internet access, cutting-edge CCTV systems, an optical fibre network, and other crucial digital infrastructure components, the project seeks to modernise Jimma.

By modernising service delivery in important areas such as municipal services, education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and revenue collection, the smart city infrastructure would enable extremely effective service delivery and improve Jimma’s citizens’ quality of life in general.

Why Jimma City?

Jimma’s competitiveness as a top travel, conference, business, and investment destination will be capitalised on by this project.

Through enhancing the city’s capacity in these domains, the project will stimulate commercial activity and produce significant socio-economic advantages for the neighbourhood.

Addis Ababa (CityNet), Adama, Sheger City, Harar, Dessie, Kombolcha, and Bahir Dar are just a few of the cities where Ethio Telecom has successfully finished the first phase of smart city projects as part of its dedication to achieving Digital Ethiopia.

In addition, Jigjiga is now implementing the project, while talks with other city governments are still going on.

5G network rollout in Jimma City 

On Monday, Ethio Telecom, the country’s top telecom and digital solutions provider, launched 5G services in Jimma City as part of its ongoing nationwide rollout.

This accomplishment is a major step in the company’s goal to hasten Ethiopia’s digital transformation by guaranteeing fast connectivity and opening up fresh avenues for economic expansion and creativity.

With the launch of the 5G network, Ethio Telecom is reaffirming its dedication to improving digital accessibility and empowering Ethiopia to fully utilise next-generation connections.

With this introduction, service reliability and digital solutions are improved while meeting the increasing demands of individuals, organisations, and sectors for data and the internet.

Jimma City now has access to the network, especially in the vicinity of the Jimma Zone Administration Office, the Ethio Telecom South West Regional Office, Ferenj Arada, the Central Hotel, the Haile Hotel and Stadium Area, the Dololo Hotel, the Firomsis Hospital, Central Merkato, Kochi, Jimma University, the Mizan and Boye neighbourhoods, and Ferenj Arada.
