Groundbreaker Talents is accepting applications for its latest cohort. The residential training program equips participants with software engineering and AI skills and removes financial barriers that often prevent access to technology education. The programme targets women aged 18 to 30, including refugees living in Uganda, and does not require prior experience in technology.

Fully Funded Training and Career Support

Groundbreaker says the scholarship covers every aspect of a participant’s learning journey. Successful applicants receive full training in software and AI engineering, a personal laptop, internet access, accommodation, meals, mentorship, healthcare support, and career placement assistance. The programme is delivered through partnerships with institutions including Refactory Academy and Turing College.

The residential format lets participants focus on learning and provides reliable connectivity, technical equipment, and professional support. The training takes place at Groundbreaker’s campus in Bukerere, near Kampala.

Groundbreaker states that its mission is to expand access to technology careers for young African women from financially constrained backgrounds. The organisation argues that many talented women are unable to pursue higher education or professional training due to economic challenges, despite the growing demand for digital skills across Africa and beyond.

Strong Employment Outcomes

The programme highlights a track record of positive graduate outcomes. Groundbreaker reports that 92 per cent of participants complete the programme, while 98 per cent secure employment within three months of graduation. It also says graduates experience an average 25-fold increase in income, with some securing positions at international companies.

Former participants have shared their experiences of moving from little or no technical knowledge into professional software engineering roles after completing the programme. Groundbreaker says its blend of technical training, mentorship and job placement support helps graduates transition successfully into the workforce.

One former participant said: “The journey wasn’t easy, but today, I’m a software engineer.”

Another graduate added: “I arrived on campus knowing almost nothing about tech and left as a confident, professional techie.’ Today, I proudly work as a software engineer at the National Renewable Energy Platform.”

How to Apply

Applicants must complete an online application, submit supporting documents, and provide a two- to three-minute motivational video. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to phone and in-person interviews before final selections are made. Successful applicants will then receive onboarding guidance ahead of the programme’s commencement.

Groundbreaker says applications for Cohort 7, scheduled to begin in July 2026, are now open, and the application process is entirely free of charge.
