The LSLGA is about cracking down on illegal and unlicensed gaming operations in Lagos State. We’re committed to enforcing the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Law 2021. It is highly recommended that both onshore and offshore operators acquire an operating licence from the Lagos State government to legitimise their gaming operations. If this is not done, there will be severe consequences. Those responsible will face legal action under Nigerian and international laws.

Uncovering the underworld of gaming in Lagos State

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has expressed serious concerns regarding the unauthorised gaming activities of numerous organisations operating within Lagos State. These entities have been operating without the necessary licences from LSLGA, which violates Section 33(3) of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Law 2021. These companies must obtain the proper licences to comply with the regulations. It’s important to note that individuals or organisations must possess a valid licence from the Authority to engage in any gaming activities within the State. This requirement is clearly outlined in the law.

Legal framework and regulatory Authority

The regulation of lottery and gaming activities in Lagos State is established by Section 4 (7) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). This constitutional provision grants the state government the Authority to regulate and supervise gaming operations within its jurisdiction. Some exciting court cases, like Edet v Chagoon (2008) and Attorney-General Plateau State v Goyol (2007), have clarified that the State can make laws about lotteries and gaming. These cases highlight the importance of following state laws and regulations.

Methods for ensuring and maintaining compliance

LSLGA is cracking down on illegal gaming operations and unlicensed operators in Lagos State. Obtaining the necessary licences from the Lagos State government is crucial for both onshore and offshore gaming operators to ensure the legitimacy of their activities. If you don’t follow these regulations, you could face serious legal repercussions, including prosecution under Nigerian and international laws. It is highly recommended that the public avoid placing bets or wagers on platforms these unauthorised gaming operators run.

Their activities are considered illegal and violate constitutional and State laws. To ensure a safe and regulated gaming environment in Lagos State, all stakeholders must work with regulatory authorities and follow the established legal framework.
