Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a division of a prominent pan-African corporation, Cassava Technologies, announced on Thursday the successful completion of its fibre network extending from Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana in Botswana.

This expanded autonomous network is more than 730 km long, bringing important communities like Francistown, Mahalapye, and Palapye into the fold and establishing the first-ever direct connection from northern Botswana via the A1 route.

“This fibre extension project is a milestone for Botswana, strengthening the country’s economic hubs and connecting major commercial centres. The high-speed connectivity access is set to benefit urban centres and rural communities along the route and further expand our presence in Botswana and the continent through the One Africa Digital Network. It will bring additional multi-terabit capacity and resilience to the region,” said Odirile Tamajobe, Managing Director of Liquid Botswana.

Liquid’s fibre project to enhance cross-border digital infrastructure with neighbouring countries

The fibre expansion project not only offers improved services to local users but also transcends national borders by connecting with fibre networks in South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan to create a strong, cross-border digital infrastructure.

The fibre extension project demonstrates Liquid’s continuous investment in Botswana’s digital infrastructure and its critical role in assisting Africa’s migration to digitalisation.

Liquid’s leadership in the region’s digital revolution will be further cemented by this expanded access, guaranteeing that no Motswana is left behind.

Additionally, the program gives local Internet service providers (ISPs) the ability to offer their services to retail clients, which indirectly helps home users throughout the area and creates more job prospects.

Liquid’s new fibre network, which is backed by regional contracting firms, is a big step forward for Botswana’s national digital transformation plan. It furthers the nation’s objective of being a digitally connected and economically independent country.

Along the path, the network provides vital connectivity for businesses and enterprises in key towns, including important retail and commercial hubs, financial services, and institutions of higher learning and hospitality.
