Mali introduces digital platform to enhance consular services

To make it easier for its diaspora to obtain travel, identity, and administrative documents, Mali inaugurated a digital platform on Tuesday, February 18.

This creative and safe solution, which is used in diplomatic and consular missions overseas, also seeks to boost user confidence by protecting personal information and using cutting-edge security measures.

“The launch of this solution and its operationalization in two weeks demonstrate our desire to have a more efficient administration that is responsive to the needs of citizens.

This digital platform marks a significant step forward in the modernization and protection of administrative data, while simplifying access to essential documents for our compatriots residing abroad ,” declared Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Digitisation of visa application process

The innovation, which was entirely designed and developed by Malian experts, should reinforce the nation’s digital sovereignty.

It will also help foreigners who want to visit Mali by digitising the visa application process, and it will be compatible with the “Liptako Visa,” a confederal visa system established by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), which will promote regional mobility.

This program is a component of the Malian government’s digitalisation policy, which aims to increase public sector efficiency.

Obstacles to be addressed

Even though the nation is now ranked 141st out of 193 nations in the United Nations e-Government Index (EGDI), up 13 spots, there are still obstacles to be addressed in order to increase the effectiveness and accessibility of its digital services.

It is anticipated that the effective deployment of the digital platform will also minimise bureaucratic roadblocks and delays, improving public resource management and cutting administrative expenses.

For this project to be successful and sustainable, close collaboration amongst the pertinent ministries would be necessary.

The Mali government intends to digitise all of its governmental services within the next few years. Numerous initiatives to increase administrative service efficiency and accessibility have already shown the early fruits of these efforts.
