Since launching in 2023, the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program has supported over 1,000 young professionals, including women, persons with disabilities, refugees, and internally displaced persons.

Participants in the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program gain hands-on work experience by contributing to real projects while building technical and professional competencies.

The programme also offers leadership development, mentorship, and access to professional networks, giving associates the tools they need for long-term career growth. A monthly stipend is provided to support participants financially throughout the internship period.

Who Can Apply and How It Works

The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program is open to recent graduates with zero to two years of work experience who reside in Africa. While alumni of Mastercard Foundation programmes are often prioritised, other eligible candidates may also apply depending on available roles.

Applications for the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program are accepted on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline.

Applicants are selected through a structured recruitment process before being matched with host organisations—the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program partners with employers, development organisations, and recruitment platforms to facilitate placements. Application platforms include Jobberman for West Africa, Shortlist Futures for East Africa, Talent2Africa for Francophone regions, and Youth Employment Service (YES) in South Africa, among others.

Focus on Inclusion and Career Transition

The Mastercard Foundation Associates Programme prioritises inclusion and creates opportunities for underserved groups across Africa. The programme actively supports young women, persons with disabilities, and displaced youth, promoting equitable access to career opportunities. It bridges the gap between education systems and labour market demands.

Beyond the internship, the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program provides pathways to transition into full-time employment, entrepreneurship, or advanced career opportunities.

Participants benefit from mentorship and career guidance, strengthening their ability to secure meaningful work after completing the programme.

Through its expanding reach, the Mastercard Foundation Associates Program continues to connect African youth with career opportunities while supporting workforce development across the continent.
