Meta launched paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp on Wednesday, in a global rollout aimed at diversifying revenue beyond advertising. Meta Head of Product Naomi Gleit announced the launch on Instagram, saying the plans offer “richer ways to express and connect across our apps, with more fun features to be added.”

Users who subscribe to Instagram Plus ($3.99/month), Facebook Plus ($3.99/month), or WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/month) get access to features such as profile customization, super reactions, and story insights. Unlike Meta Verified, which focuses on identity verification, the Plus plans are centered on user experience, customization, and audience growth tools.

Meta One subscription bundle

Alongside the app-specific plans, Meta is testing AI subscriptions and professional tools under a new Meta One umbrella brand. Gleit described Meta One as a way to bring Meta subscriptions “together” across all apps, adding that the plans are “just the beginning with a lot more value to come.”

Meta is testing Meta One Plus at $7.99 and Meta One Premium at $19.99 for advanced AI users. The Premium tier includes deeper reasoning for complex tasks, plus expanded image and video generation tools. Testing begins next month in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.

Revenue push beyond advertising

Meta One Essential, priced at $14.99, targets creators and businesses, while Meta One Advanced at $49.99 adds higher visibility in Facebook and Instagram search, stronger Reels promotion tools, automated follow prompts, deeper competitor analytics, and team access controls.

The company faces growing investor scrutiny over its heavy AI spending, with capital expenditure projected between $125 billion and $145 billion this year, largely driven by AI infrastructure.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak added that efficient systems are becoming a competitive advantage. On Meta’s side, the subscription push reflects a long-term strategy to diversify revenue and reduce reliance on advertising as growth across its core social platforms slows after years of expansion.
