Regional Reach

The universities were selected to reflect Nigeria’s major regions, with OAU representing the South-West, UNN representing the South-East, and ABU Zaria representing the North. The spread is designed to widen access to advanced technical training beyond commercial centres like Lagos.

Each innovation hub will serve as a practical learning centre offering cohort-based training, mentorship, live projects, and collaborative learning opportunities for students across different faculties.

Moniepoint co-founder and Group CEO Tosin Eniolorunda said the initiative is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s local tech talent pipeline.

“When you look at the success of companies like Moniepoint, it’s easy to forget that it all started with the foundational training we received right here in Nigerian universities,” he said.

Industry-Led Training

Beyond funding infrastructure, Moniepoint’s engineering, product, and business teams will help shape the curriculum, mentorship programmes, internships, and expert-led workshops to ensure students gain practical, industry-relevant experience.

The initiative builds on the HatchDev programme at the University of Lagos, led by Moniepoint co-founder and CTO Felix Ike in partnership with NITHub, which targets training up to 500 developers annually.

Beyond Classrooms

OAU Vice-Chancellor Adebayo Simeon Bamire described the initiative as aligned with the university’s commitment to innovation and societal impact.

The hubs are expected to function as active technology ecosystems where students can work on real-world projects, connect with engineers and investors, and develop skills needed for Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
