Over the next five years, Abuja-based media company Mswitch Creative Media Hub will train five thousand young Nigerians for post-production jobs worldwide.

Twenty promising young creatives have been given the tools they need to become proficient sound designers through the program’s rigorous curriculum, which began in February 2024 and consists of both classroom instruction and practical experience. On April 16th and 17th, 2024, at Abuja’s Mswitch Media Office and Jabi Lake Mall, respectively, these aspiring artists will showcase their polished projects to the world.

What to expect

Demo Day, with the theme “Positioning Nigerian Creatives for Global Post Production Opportunites,” is the culmination of the first cohort’s experience with the Academy’s extensive capacity development programme. A workshop for stakeholders and a graduation ceremony are planned for the two-day event.

Hollywood heavyweight Gabe Converse, Mswitch co-founder Kadir Salami, special assistant to the president for the creative economy Ayo Adeagbo, and Dr. Olufemi Adeluyi, national coordinator of the talent export programme, are just a few of the esteemed speakers from both the local and international realms who will be addressing the workshop. The meeting will focus on developing creative talent in Nigeria that can be exported to other countries, taking advantage of the country’s rapidly expanding youth population.

An intimate insight into the life-altering effects of the program will be on display at the Graduation Ceremony. Students will demonstrate their newfound abilities through the presentation of their final projects. Prospective employers and business partners will be able to network with the graduates, opening doors to future opportunities for both.

Among the many events planned for Demo Day are a Keynote Address, Panel Discussions, Experience Tours, Workshops, and a request for applications for future cohorts. There will likely be participation from prominent public and private officials and academics, diplomats, and development partners.

Mr. Kadir Salami, Co-Founder of Mswitch Media, argues that young people can gain financial independence through content creation and technology. To help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like Ending Hunger, Improving Education, and Promoting Decent Work and Economic Growth, the Academy plans to take advantage of these opportunities to create jobs.

This programme is the initial effort of several planned initiatives to encourage innovation and creativity among the youth of Nigeria, with funding from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy.
