The milestone highlights the Nigerian fintech’s ongoing relevance in the nation’s fiercely competitive fintech market as it surpasses 6 million users before its tenth year of operation.

PiggyVest revealed in a user email that its assets under management increased by 110 per cent in 2025 but did not provide a precise figure. During the year, the business also made a significant infrastructure change, retiring the virtual account numbers it had used since its inception and introducing its own internal payment system, powered by PocketApp.

“Establishing our own payment infrastructure through PocketApp account numbers has given us more reliability and control over deposits and payouts,” co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Joshua Chibueze told Techpoint Africa.

PiggyVest’s significant milestone

Along with Interswitch, Moniepoint, and M-KOPA, PiggyVest made CNBC’s list of the top fintech companies of 2025, demonstrating the company’s progress on a global scale.

Since its 2016 launch, PiggyVest has disbursed over ₦3 trillion to its users, solidifying its standing as one of Africa’s top digital savings platforms. The company has progressively broadened its scope in recent years, even though it first established its reputation around individual savings.

Introduction of PiggyVest Business

In 2024, PiggyVest introduced PiggyVest Business, which allowed small businesses to use some of its main products. Companies can access low-risk investment opportunities and lock money in interest-bearing accounts through services like Safelock and Investify.

Chibueze stated that early adoption of the product has been beneficial, despite the company not disclosing the number of businesses currently using it.

He stated, “The pilot phase has been successful,” and PiggyVest intends to roll out a feature that lets users switch between the app’s personal and business use cases.

According to Chibueze, community involvement also contributed to PiggyVest’s growth over the year, as the fintech hosted town halls in five Nigerian cities, including Lagos and Abuja.

“We expanded our primary community programme, OpenHouse, to more cities nationwide last year. It gave us more depth and insights into product strategy,” he said.

Proposed PiggyVest Kids

Although PiggyVest had previously announced it would introduce a savings product for kids called PiggyVest Kids, the rollout has not yet begun. The company now intends to launch around Children’s Day later this year, according to Chibueze.

In light of the payout milestone, Chibueze observed that the numbers show a rise in platform trust.

“As a predominantly low-trust environment, we’re proud of the consistent work we have put in over the years to win back the trust of Nigerians when it comes to digital savings and investments and the impact on their lives,” he said.
