Anant Badjatya to Lead Spiro’s Africa EV Expansion

At Indofast Energy, a collaboration between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, Badjatya oversaw the development of more than 1,800 battery-swapping stations, which collectively supported around 90,000 vehicle transactions per day. That experience is expected to play a key role as Spiro expands its electric motorcycle ecosystem across Africa.

Badjatya’s broad mandate will span battery swapping, leasing, logistics, energy, and vehicle manufacturing as Spiro advances its pan-African strategy. Kaushik Burman will remain CEO, continuing to oversee country operations and regional execution across the seven markets where the company currently operates.

Spiro Founder and Chairman Gagan Gupta outlined the company’s expectations for its new Group CEO.

“As Spiro accelerates its mission to transform mobility across Africa through clean, affordable, and accessible electric transportation solutions, Anant will consolidate the Group’s strategic initiatives and guide the company through its next chapter of growth and execution across mobility, energy, and technology.”

Badjatya echoed that vision following his appointment.

“Africa represents the most exciting frontier for electric mobility. Spiro has built a unique platform and is exceptionally well positioned to accelerate the transition to cleaner and more accessible mobility across the continent.”

$365 Million Funding Fuels Spiro Growth Strategy

Spiro’s latest US$215 million financing round was backed by Impact Fund Denmark and Equitane. The investment follows a US$50 million facility from Afreximbank and a US$100 million funding round completed in October 2025, bringing the company’s total recent funding to more than US$365 million.

As part of its growth strategy, Spiro also plans to expand its technology operations in India. Its Pune facility, which focuses on automotive innovation, currently employs more than 100 people and is expected to grow further as the company invests in EV powertrain development and battery management systems.
