On May 26, 2026,  Spotify announced a trial rollout of narrated Articles, a new audio format that brings magazine stories onto its streaming platform. More than 650 English-language long-form articles are now available to users in markets where Spotify Audiobooks currently operates.

The move expands Spotify’s growing investment in audiobooks, spoken-word content, digital publishing, and creator-driven media as competition intensifies across the audio streaming industry.

Produced by Spotify’s in-house audiobook division, the curated collection includes stories from major publications such as  Rolling Stone,  The Atlantic,  Vogue,  Variety,  Billboard,  Vibe,  GQ,  WIRED,  Vanity Fair, and  Pitchfork.

“We see Articles as a natural extension of the audio people already come to Spotify for,” the company said. “And through Spotify’s discovery and personalization features, media publishers and magazine partners can bring stories directly to listeners who are most likely to be excited about their content.”

Spotify Audio Articles Roll Out to Premium and Free Users

Each narrated article runs under two hours and is included within Premium subscribers’ monthly audiobook allowance alongside Spotify’s existing audiobook catalog. Free users can purchase individual audio articles for $1.99 each.

According to Spotify, the feature is designed to make written journalism easier to discover through the same recommendation engine users already rely on for music streaming, podcasts, and audiobooks. Instead of moving between reading apps and audio platforms, listeners can now access magazine features directly within the Spotify ecosystem.

Julian Holguin welcomed the partnership, describing it as an opportunity to expand the reach of magazine journalism through audio streaming.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Spotify in what we see as a natural synergy between two platforms that celebrate music and culture,” Holguin said. “This collaboration with Articles allows us to deepen the connection between our readers and the artists, stories, and features they care about, while also providing an opportunity for discovery.”

Spotify Deepens Push Into Audiobooks and Spoken-Word Content

The launch builds on Spotify’s broader expansion into audiobooks and spoken-word media. Since entering the audiobook market more than two years ago, the company says it has expanded audiobook access into 22 markets, increased listening hours by 60% year over year, and reached millions of users globally.

The narrated article collection currently spans entertainment, fashion, music, technology, culture, and lifestyle reporting, further positioning Spotify as a broader audio and media platform beyond music streaming alone.
