The investment, announced on Monday, will support LemFi’s efforts to integrate USD₮ into its payment infrastructure and improve financial access for millions of migrants and underserved users across Africa and Asia.
The global digital platform said the partnership aligns with its broader goal of promoting financial inclusion through blockchain-powered payment systems that reduce transfer costs and settlement delays often associated with traditional remittance channels.
Tether targets cross-border payment growth
According to Tether, the investment will help accelerate the use of stablecoin-based financial services in regions where access to traditional banking infrastructure remains limited or expensive.
“At Tether, our goal is to promote financial inclusion, and we are committed to working with platforms building scalable financial solutions that address the real needs of our 585 million users globally,” said Paolo Ardoino.
“Our investment in LemFi reflects our shared vision on how money moves across borders, prioritising speed, cost, and transparency. By supporting LemFi’s growth and innovation roadmap, we are helping bring the benefits of a stable digital asset to more people who rely on remittances in their daily lives.”
LemFi operates a financial platform serving users across the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Europe, allowing migrants to send money to relatives and businesses in African and Asian countries.
The company said stablecoins have become central to its infrastructure strategy because they allow faster settlement and more accessible cross-border transactions than traditional banking rails.
“Tether’s investment is a significant milestone for us at LemFi, but more importantly, it is a validation of the direction we are heading. We have always believed that the financial system should work equally well for everyone, regardless of where they live or where they are sending money, said Ridwan Olalere.
“Integrating USD₮ into our infrastructure brings us closer to that reality, enabling faster, cheaper, and more reliable financial services for the millions of people who depend on us every day.”
The growing stablecoin adoption in Africa
The investment highlights growing interest among crypto firms in remittance-focused fintech companies operating in emerging markets. Stablecoins such as USD₮ are increasingly used to bypass slow banking systems, reduce foreign-exchange costs, and enable near-instant settlements.
Africa remains one of the world’s most expensive regions for remittances, according to World Bank data, making stablecoin-powered transfers an attractive alternative for migrants sending funds home.
The region processed more than $100 billion in remittance inflows in 2025, led by countries such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya.
