Webb Fontaine announced on Thursday, during the 15th Public Finance Review Meeting in Cotonou, that it has made remarkable progress in Benin’s customs digitisation initiative.
The project is designed to modernise customs operations, improve revenue collection, and ensure smoother trade processes across the country.
Progress in Digitising Benin’s Customs Offices
Since the launch of the Webb Customs project in July 2022, 44 of Benin’s 49 customs offices have successfully migrated to the new system, which replaces the outdated ASYCUDAWorld platform.
This transition has already yielded impressive results, including collecting over 30 billion CFA francs in revenue. Webb Customs has also facilitated the activation of more than 700 user accounts and 90 company accounts, issued 48,000 laissez-passers, processed 59,000 returns, and generated over 100,000 receipts.
The remaining five customs offices, which include central revenue-generating locations such as the Port of Cotonou, are scheduled to transition by mid-2025. These final migrations are expected to further enhance efficiency and increase government revenue collection.
Cutting-edge technology driving efficiency
Webb Customs is powered by a fully digital and AI-driven Customs Management System. This system integrates seamlessly with other trade platforms, such as the National Single Window and the Electronic Cargo Tracking solution. A streamlined customs process that reduces clearance times minimises paperwork and curbs corruption risks.
Alioune Ciss, Webb Fontaine Group’s CEO, highlighted the importance of this transformation for Benin’s customs operations. He said, “We are proud to contribute to a more modern, efficient, and transparent Beninese Customs using advanced technologies…to strengthen the security of Customs operations.”
With its focus on innovation and collaboration with the Beninese government, Webb Fontaine is paving the way for an entirely digitised customs system that supports trade facilitation and enhances economic growth in the region.
