The initiative creates opportunities for undergraduates at Nigerian tertiary institutions to promote smart banking habits, fintech awareness, and digital money management on their campuses. According to the bank, the programme will recruit student ambassadors with strong leadership abilities, campus visibility, and active social media engagement.

Focus on Digital Banking Awareness

ALAT said the ambassadors will act as a bridge between the bank and students by leading peer education campaigns and organising campus activities around digital banking adoption.

The programme also seeks to build communities centred on responsible financial behaviour, savings culture, and automated money management. Selected students will provide feedback on student banking experiences and help strengthen engagement among younger Nigerians.

The move aligns with the broader push by Nigerian financial institutions to expand technology-driven banking services among young consumers who increasingly rely on mobile platforms for transactions and financial services.

Internship Access and Training Opportunities

Beyond campus engagement, the scheme offers participants financial rewards, mentorship sessions, professional training, and internship pathways within Wema Bank’s ecosystem.

The bank stated that ambassadors will also gain access to corporate events, technology conferences, and career development sessions led by executives and industry professionals.

Applicants must be active students in accredited Nigerian institutions and at least 18 years old. The bank added that candidates should demonstrate communication skills, leadership potential, and an active digital presence.

Interested students are expected to submit personal details, academic information, social media profiles, and a statement explaining their interest in joining the initiative through the official application portal.

Wema Bank Deepens Fintech Innovation Push

The ambassador programme adds to Wema Bank’s growing investment in youth-focused digital banking and technology education.

ALAT, launched in 2017, is widely recognised as Nigeria’s first fully digital banking platform and has become one of the bank’s strongest fintech products.

In recent years, Wema Bank has expanded its technology and youth empowerment efforts through digital skills programmes, innovation competitions, and financial inclusion campaigns. In 2023, the bank partnered with the federal government on a digital training initiative targeting millions of Nigerian youths and small businesses.

Industry observers say the latest campus ambassador scheme reflects how Nigerian banks are increasingly competing by adopting technology, engaging students, and promoting financial education as digital banking usage continues to rise among younger demographics.

Interested students can visit the official application portal to register for the programme.
